Russell came highly recommended to me from a friend. My taxes may be more complex than most including income in non-USD, trusts, and brokerage accounts. A personal first meeting got off to a good start with follow through just as I hoped for. Questions were answered promptly with our final meeting clearly explaining my filings and planning estimated 2021 taxes. This is just the tax service I was looking for.

This here is the CPA you want working on your taxes. I was lucky to find Russell last year after my last accountant retired. He handled all my tax questions with mastery, and he gave me answers fast! There are many accountants in La Jolla/San Diego who say they can help you.but they are impossible to reach. Russell and his team answer the phone every single time I have called, he is super accessible, and he is generous with his advice.
Many times I asked Russell for help very close to a deadline, and I guarantee he was up to his shoulders in other client work. Still, he took the time to help me and explained things in plain English so I could understand, something that many other CPA's don't care to do. Russell is not your budget accountant, but you get what you pay for, and he's a real professional you can count on. You are in great hands with him, and he's the best accountant in San Diego that I have come across. Without hesitation, I will be using him again come next tax year.

I have worked with many professionals in accountancy over the years for my businesses and personal. I can say without a doubt that this is the worst professional I have ever met. At our first meeting, on February 19, I thought Russell seemed confused. We had just moved from the East Coast and needed a new local accountant. We told Russell that our taxes needed to be prepared in the state of New Jersey and California and that we needed our federal taxes done.
He asked a series of questions and we gave him almost all of our information. He quoted us a price of $500 and we agreed. At the end of that meeting we told him we would supply him with additional business expenses that we had not completed. About a week and a half later, I got a call from Russell with our expected taxes owed. I then told him that he did not have all the information; that he was still waiting for our business expenses as we discussed in our first meeting.
He seemed confused and said "OK." Shortly thereafter, on March 7, I got a last-minute 1099 for $3000 and supplied that information to Russell by email. On March 18, a full 11 days later, I got a message from Russell saying he just opened my email. In his email to me on March 18, he said he had to "cut" his "losses", and would not be completing our return.
He ended his note to say that he would leave our paperwork at the "front desk" and states, " I have decided to cut my losses and would like to return your information to you so you can go elsewhere. There is no way that I can charge for the amount of painstaking detail that is required. I will leave your information in an envelope at the front desk.
Sorry but this is a freaking nightmare." This left us with barely 3 weeks until the tax deadline to find a new accountant. Luckily, my wife found us one who would take us at the last minute. That gentleman did a great job in the meeting and seemed to comprehend everything; and charged us $264. Russell was prepared to charge us $500 for work, it seemed to me, he didn't even know if he was capable of doing. If you want my opinion, you are best to "cut your losses" and go to another local accountant who will charge you fairly and be more professional.

Russell was such a nice guy. My boyfriend just got a green card and Russell sat down with us and told us exactly what to do! We are definitely sticking with this guy. He didn't even charge a consult! He had on an Awesome Hawaiian shirt which made for an instantly relaxed atmosphere in an otherwise very formal and professional looking office.

Just stopped by Russell's office today to run through my taxes. While talking to him, I realized that Russell has been doing my taxes for 22 years now. Russell Ingledew is an excellent CPA -- he's smart, reliable, and he knows ALL the ins and outs of the IRS and the latest tax rules. Not only that, but he's got a KILLER view from his 4th floor office on Herschel Avenue, across from the Burger Lounge and Karl Strauss. If you're looking for a total pro to do your taxes -- someone who can handle the simplest or most complicated tax questions -- then Russell's the guy for you.
