I recently moved to Indiana, and wanted to support the local economy and local small business by having my taxes done by a local CPA. I regretfully decided to go to Schaaf CPA. Per the reviews I read, I thought I'd be getting professional, top quality service, but got the exact opposite. Mr. Schaaf was disrespectful, degrading and unprofessional. Having moved up in tax brackets, changed states and become a first time homeowner since my previous tax return, I knew there would be a difference in the return.

When I inquired about the finished return to get a better understanding of exactly how it all impacted the refund I was getting, Mr. Schaaf showed his true unprofessionalism. Here's a brief overview: I just wanted to understand why my previous year's refund was a much higher amount. A professional CPA's response: "Last year, you qualified for the Earned Income Tax Credit because your total gross income was below the cutoff of x amount of dollars, so you received x amount of dollars from the government." Mr. Schaaf's response verbatim: "Last year you were so poor, so the government just gave you some money." Mr. Schaaf didn't even have the courtesy to speak to me in an office in a one on one setting, but instead spoke to me in the lobby of his office, in the presence of others, including my family. So for $250 you can expect to be degraded, disrespected and treated unprofessionally by Mr. Schaaf. Please take your hard-earned money somewhere else. Anywhere else.

Last year was our first experience with Schaaf CPA Group. We were so impressed with them! They were extremely knowledgeable and very helpful with our tax questions. In the past, it's taken over a month to get our tax return prepared but we were pleasantly surprised that Schaaf CPA Group had ours done in a matter of days. We will definitely be using them for many years to come. They were great!

John is an excellent CPA. I first started working with him about 4 years ago. I had been working with liberty tax group prior. Not only did John do my current taxes, but he helped me unravel several years of unfiled taxes -dating back to the 80's and 90's we wanted to deal with - AND he discovered huge mistakes that liberty made when reviewing our old returns and got us 9k back on the corrected liberty returns. Johns team is great. It's easy to make an appointment, even if you wait till the last minute. John sends his customers an organizer prior to tax season so that you can quickly see what you need to bring with you as you answer the questionnaire. He's fairly priced, talented, organized and fun to work with.
