I just finished a thank you letter to Mr. Hald for completing my 2020 return and now I would like to recommend him to you. Mr. Hald has been doing my returns for several years. He is very knowledgeable and I have never had a return questioned even though he is consolidating information from two countries.

RUN from this guy, don't walk. I hired Tim Hald to prepare my 2019 taxes. In March of 2020 after the taxes were complete, I had asked Tim to mail the return back to me, he didn't. In July of 2020 I AGAIN emailed Tim asking for my tax return, once again he didn't. On 2/2/21 - I called ahead to Tim's office to collect in person my 2019 Tax Return to quickly pick up and continue with my busy day.
Instead of having the Tax return prepared for pickup for his client(and asking twice for my Tax return to be mailed to me) I waited in his lobby that's within earshot of his office while he was collecting information from a couple and I was able to hear all of the personal details, how much they were projected to make this year, etc. I waited for Tim to finish with the couple and he came out and said it was going to be a while to get my return.
After rummaging around boxes and boxes for what felt like an eternity I'm standing there for 40 minutes in his lobby politely awaiting my 2019 Taxes. Tim at one point said that I should have reached out ahead of time to ask HIM TO FIND MY TAXES? I politely reminded him of both the March 2020 email and July 2020 email asking him to drop it in the mail to which he seemed to get agitated.
Several minutes later he finds the return sitting on the front desk. TIM THROWS THE TAX RETURN AT ME, knocks over business cards and other garbage on his front desk and I pick up my return. Let me repeat that - Tim Hald threw my 2019 Tax Return at me in his office lobby. I checked to make sure everything was in the file and left. I've never come across someone so unprofessional in all of my adult life.

Not professional in my opinion. Tim put the wrong mailing address through the comptrollers registration, thus my mail should have went to him from the State of Texas with my web file # and instructions on how to set up a sales tax permit. I just found out about this today and now am facing a penalty for past due taxes and account that I was supposed to set up, but was unaware because I didn't receive any mail.
When I called today to speak with Tim I was cut off every sentence I tried to speak and finally when I got my point across he cut me off and said that he had a client. I do not recommend Tim due to the treatment I received today and don't want anything to do with this business ever again.

It's amazing that anyone would recommend this guy. He doesn't listen, he's horrible with technology (I'm classifying email and basic computer usage as technology), and the dude likes to argue. He doesn't even act like he cares and he's quite rude (rude to me and seemingly everyone he talked to while I was in his office) There's a lot of CPA's out there. I would definitely recommend moving on to the next one on your list. Save yourself the trouble!

Tim is extremely thorough and communicative (not to mention highly experienced) when it comes to tax preparation. He helped me thru the process of remedying several years of late filings and was even able to get one of the penalties waived. He is undoubtedly very committed to his clients, and always displays patience and professionalism. There is no one in the Austin area I could recommend more highly for business or individual tax prep than him!

Oh, my! I originally posted a two star review for this guy after he abruptly told me he wouldn't work with me after we'd scheduled a meeting and spent 15 minutes on the phone. Mr. Hald didn't like that review. He sent me a strange email asking me to delete it. I responded, suggesting I might be able to honestly revise opinion of my experience with him if he'd give me some simple advice on where else to turn.
Then I got another email. If the first was strange, the second was downright creepy. I was going to blow it off and forget about it - until I came back to Yelp to seek a different tax professional. I noticed Mr. Hald is among the sponsored search results, so he's keen on using Yelp to find new clients. Problem is, he seems to have a dim view of Yelpers.
In his second email he said this: "I saw you did 362 reviews wow - there seems a need to have power over people lives and businesses because you were offended. People see thru the reviews especially someone that did 362 - that the majority are frustrated in their life, want to share their hurt failure on someone and have a checkered past - like a bully does" I figured my fellow Yelpers ought to know that he sees us as losers. Bullies and failures, even.
To top it off, he addressed me by my full name, suggesting that he'd Google-stalked me to figure out my middle name. Clearly he wanted me to know he knows exactly who I am. Whoa! Like I said, I was just going to forget about this until I noticed he advertises on Yelp. Given the way he characterized me as a Yelper, I think others here ought to know.

We hired Mr. Hald to do our 2017 taxes based on good online reviews and while he seems like a nice guy in person, he screwed up our taxes pretty badly. He amended a tax filing based on a theoretical question I asked without confirming with me that we actually wanted to make that change. Additionally, if you want to try and communicate with him via email, forget about it.
His written communication skills are atrocious. Just a jumbled, nonsensical and complete mess. The new CPA we hired said that Mr. Hald had been reprimanded by the state board in 2017 for various including incompetence. Proceed at your own risk if you decide to hire him.

We needed someone for a complicated tax return; someone with experience and extensive knowledge too. After checking the reviews, we went with Mr. Hald. He did the work, but just enough. It was nothing special. Initially we thought he was very reserved, but soon realized that we just didn't get the best vibe from him. He made us feel very uncomfortable each time we met with him.
On one occasion, we had to reschedule an appt and called and spoke to the receptionist to arrange this. The day after the original appt (that was canceled in plenty of time), Tim called me and yelled at me for not showing up and for wasting his time. After I told him I had rearranged the appt with the receptionist, he was able to confirm this. Never once did he apologize.
It was completely unprofessional behavior. We only stayed with him out of desperation, but decided to leave immediately after this incident. We do not recommend his services.

I've been going to Mr. Hald for three years now after my situation became more complex. I'm so glad I did! He is thorough, thoughtful, and fast! He helps identify deductions and areas of opportunity making his fee so worth it! He's also very friendly and remembers the personal details even though we only talk once a year! I highly recommend his services.

Switched to this practice for tax advising after bad advising at another firm. Tim Hald CPA refiled what our last accountant screwed up, and he got us a return larger than we imagined! (The last accountant did not take enough deductions on rental property and amortized incorrectly!) Mr. Hald will remain as our tax advisor until he retires as he is easy to work with, and very proficient in our tax savings! His claim of saving clients " from paying too much tax" is absolutely true,

Just to be up front, I never actually got to see Timothy. I had just moved to the area and had called to see if he was taking new clients. I had chosen him due to the proximity of my home. I have been using personal cpa's for my taxes for the last 20 years in 3 different states. My call was not answered the first time and I left a voice mail which was returned the next day.
The woman on the phone told me what days and times were available, and I chose one. She did not ask for any of my information so I requested that she email me a reminder for our appointment. Her response was that I should just write it down. I explained that I was driving at the moment and could not. She then suggested that I choose a time for her to call me back, so I could write it down then.
I asked that she call me in an hour and a half. Within 15 minutes she called me back and explained that she had a computer malfunction, and asked me to repeat my appointment to her. I finished my appointments, returned home, and awaited her call. I never received that phone call back from her. I also had questions for Timothy on what documents I should be bringing with me. Having just moved from out of state, with incomes coming from different locations, investments, my wife's finances, etc - my tax report is no 1040ez.
The receptionist told me to just bring everything. My appointment was for today and should have been a few hours ago. I still have not heard from his office. I had already scheduled another appointment with another cpa. They sent me an email within minutes outlining our appointment, plus a list of all the most frequent documents to bring with me. They are also going to be calling me a day before our meeting to confirm our appointment, everything I'd expect from a professional office. I will never know Timothy so I cannot speak to his services, but if your receptionist cannot handle email or phone etiquette properly, why would I trust you with my taxes?

Rude receptionist. As the first contact point with clients, receptionists carry the burden of representing the company. A bad first impression will lose clients in a heartbeat. Maybe it's an awful time of year for tax preparers, but you still have to act like you want a prospect's business. No thanks. I don't even need to find out how great the CPA is. I will be going elsewhere.

I went in after frantically needing someone to file my taxes. I usually have a family member assist me with them. Unfortunately I needed another option. Nothing against Mr. Hald. But I just didn't get the best vibe from him. He requires things that if I had gathered already. I would be filing the taxes on my own through my family member/ business partner.
My biggest complaint was that when I arrived. I was barked at by the office dog. Not once did the receptionist apologize or simply shut the door so I didn't have to hear it. I went back to speak with Mr. Hald so that I can have a clear list of what he needed me to provide him with so we can get started. I admit. He did well by simply emailing me a list of what was needed.
But I could have just had him do that from the beginning over the phone. No reason to make an hour drive for him to do so. After I left his office to walk out. The same noisy dog barked me out of the office. I get it. The animal runs the show. Unfortunately not everyone likes animals. Or to be barked at when I'm a customer interested in your services.
Still no apology & as a matter of fact. I was kind of scared having this dog walking behind me yapping. I won't be returning. Waste of time and very unprofessional business ethics.

I started to use turbo tax to do my taxes but before submitting for e-file I decided I better get a CPA to do them since my situation was a bit more complicated than most. I saw the great reviews here on Yelp for Tim and figured I'd make an appointment. Best decision ever! He got me an EXTRA $2000 back on my return! Plus he's super friendly and was easy to schedule an appointment with. Very happy customer!

Tim was the first CPA to go above and beyond for me literally. I was far and unable to see him, but he done my life so simple. more simple than I could possibly think! Because of him, my back change taxes is now resolved and my life is getting back on track. Thanks Tim Hald. You Rock! I'm getting into truck driving industry and I'll have to report taxes quarterly and you got yourself business with me.

Small company, great service, easy to work with. My wife and I visited Tim to have taxes done for both personal and a related small business. Tim was not only easy to work with, but was effective and timely in his work. I fully agree with the Apr 8, 2010 review - nothing much to add except this: if you need a CPA, Tim is your guy!

I have been going to Tim for 3 years now and he has really turned my tax situation around. With a few adjustments and proper tax planning, I have gone from owing thousands at the end of the year to getting thousands at the end of the year. Most years I work in 8-10 states and I have a very complicated return. An average CPA would charge an arm and a leg to file a complicated, multi-state return, but Tim charges just the flat rate. Tim skillfully handles my return like a tax pro!

I don't know why I didn't write this review years ago when I found Tim. Quick words to describe Tim and his practice: - experienced - asks probing questions to see where dollars should be lower - has graciously accommodated my desperate Last-Minute-Ruh-Oh-Tax-Extension-Deadline-Approaching need for an appointment - likes to educate - doesn't mind answering the same questions that I likely ask every year - does good by my joint rental property variable - sweet wife Dorothy will greet you from the office's front desk - candy bowl I've never used another CPA, but his prices are reasonable considering I've heard stories of folks spending $400+ at an HR Block.not to bash chains, they serve a purpose too.

Look, y'all, I used to be all down with TurboTax and such but then I got self employed, so when it's tax time, it's like "Here's 100 pages of invoices, grubby receipts I dug out of my pocket from when I was at a show, a bunch of notes I scribbled down that look to be Sanskrit or a lost Egyptian dialect of some kind, and a bunch of spreadsheets in 9 point font." I'm grateful Tim lets ME be a client, that's what I'm saying, because I know if someone walked into my office and dropped that pile of paper down, I'd tell them to get out.
He pays for himself in deductions he finds, makes the process as painless as possible, and answers small (and stupid) questions for me with grace and ease. Definitely beats doing it yourself.
