A complete disaster. I used April services in the last year of my doctoral studies, because I had lived in two different states, and as a foreign student did not want to make any mistakes with my taxes. So I actually paid money to a professional accountant from my meager salary ONLY to make sure everything was done properly. Not to mention that at the time I had no assets, etc., so this job should have been a piece of cake.
Three years later, I got a notice from a law firm that I had not paid my state taxes that year. I checked my records, and indeed, according to this firm I did not owe taxes to the state that year. I called and emailed, and after a couple of rounds, April put someone in charge of looking into this. The guy was far from proactive, so I had to track him down a couple of times, but he finally admitted that they had miscalculated the taxes, and assured me that he would take care of it. It's five years later, and I just received another notice from a new law firm that this matter was never resolved.
Only now, there is a penalty + interest, so I owe 4 times the original amount. I'm not even going to bother contacting these people again. Just hope that my experience will be a lesson for others. There are plenty of decent, competent accountants out there.

I don't recommend using April as she doesn't actually file your taxes and doesn't actually have an office at the Walnut Street address listed. She failed to file my taxes for two years, and of course, didn't tell me. I made the mistake of assuming that since I signed the tax forms and paid her, my returns were submitted. TWO YEARS later I find out that she didn't actually submit my paperwork to the IRS or PA.
When I discovered the problem, I tried to call multiple times, and there was no answer for weeks. Finally, I just went to her office, figuring if I showed up in person I might be able to get an explanation. And guess what? The address listed on her website is fake. The building had never heard of her.

Writing this is sad and hard but in the decades i was w/ this firm I referred many peers and worry how those referrals reflect on me. For a good 15+ yrs Ambrozy was outstanding. The past few yrs service got increasingly loosey-goosey while rates got higher. For my 2015 return I payed the exact tax amounts Ambrozy advised me but I never got my fed refund AND I got delinquent tax notices from the City.
I emailed Ambrozy a few times and left vms. No reply. Months later I was contacted to make an appt for the next yr and cited my outstanding issues as a reason to take my biz elsewhere. After that I heard from them offering to assist w/ the issues but I declined as I lacked trust in their services. I was told had I texted I would have gotten a swift reply but I am not comfy doing tax biz via sms.
I no longer do business with this firm. I wish them luck in the future and still feel they are some great people. I am glad for the many years of dependable service. For almost 20 yrs I've been a sole prop w/ a stellar record of bill and tax payment and now I've got a least one garbage return that needs review, the IRS still has $x, xxx of my money in "limbo, " (communicating w/ the IRS is very difficult and confusing) I'm delinquent w/ the city, and I'm a yr behind in filing because the CPA I selected for 2016 "forgot" to do my taxes and I had to retrieve my records on 4/14/17. In five yrs I've gone from having a high level of trust in this industry to wondering if an honest, dependable, accurate accountant even exists in Philly.

I should have written this review in April 2014 - the second year I engaged Ambrozy's tax services - but in retrospect I likely needed a full year to cool off. Now that I have a new, fantastic, efficient and responsive tax accountant - who recently pointed out the egregious errors Ambrozy made on my 2013 return - I am fully ready to unleash my fury.
Trust me, the other negative reviews are SPOT ON. In a nutshell: no returned phone calls or emails, despite numerous attempts on my end to check on preparation status. And, they FINALLY called me on April 14 to let me know that they would have to file an extension - despite the fact that I had dropped off all required materials WEEKS before. I could go on and on with detail, but suffice it to say: totally, horribly, completely unprofessional! Then, they had the nerve to make me pay for their non-service! Trust me, take your business elsewhere. If they have gone out of business, good riddance!

After being referred by a friend, I have tried contacting this firm multiple times. There is an answering machine (no receptionist) and no return phone calls. After reading the other reviews on poor service with inaccurate tax preparations, and unexplained fees, I am guessing they may have gone out of business. Good riddance.

On my 2012 taxes, Ambrozy made a mistake on my taxes and filed my mortgage tax twice resulting in me getting $900 more than I should have. They realized this while doing my 2014 taxes and apologized for the error and said I could put my 2014 tax return towards the $900 balance and everything would be fine. Then I get a letter from the IRS saying that I still owe the $900.
When I called Ambrozy again, they tell me that my taxes didn't actually go towards the $900 as they said they would but instead went towards my 2014 taxes and in the meantime, I have to pay out of pocket to the IRS. To top it all off, it now costs over $350 to file my taxes with them, which they have not offered to refund to attempt to compensate for their mistakes. I'm incredibly frustrated with them.

I went to Ambrozy last year and after a positive experience I decided to use them again. I worked with April on my original return and found her to be very nice, professional and knowledgeable, but I cannot say the same for her staff. After my return was filed with no issue I came across a tax document that I missed and asked Ambrozy for advice on how I should proceed.
I was told to send in the document, which I did and a tax specialist would get back to me.easy enough. After following up with five phone calls I finally heard from them two months later letting me know I owed more money for services I did not need and never authorized. This after I already paid $550 to file my original returns. As you can imagine I was extremely frustrated so I asked to speak to April.
While she never bothered to get back to me, I did finally get that call from their "tax specialist" who was beyond rude and not helpful at all. He said it was "unfortunate" that no one ever respond to me or provided the promised tax advice, but offered no apology. This whole experience was handled so poorly. It was apparent that once I paid my original fee they couldn't be bothered until it was time to collect more money. Keep looking you will find much better service elsewhere.

I needed a new accountant and went to Ambrozy Accounting last year - it was inexpensive, convenient and they did a solid job. I decided to come back this year. I received a confirmation email and call prior to the appointment. They asked me to email the documents in prior to showing up (which I would never do as it is an insecure way to send documents) - so I sent them via DropBox the day of.
Those that I could not email I faxed over as well. I was hoping to show up with some of the prework done. I show up at the office a few minutes late. Granted it was at 5pm but no one was at the front desk, someone came and I was able to get the Wifi password for while I waited. No one asked me what I was there for, so at about 5:15 I ask to be seen.
Another 10 minutes and I'm in the back - no worries. I meet with the accountant and she said she has been extremely busy (it is tax season after all) and said she just keyed the info in. We go over the tax return, add in all of the necessary documents - she informs me I'm getting a nice return. All is well, until she tells me the bill. It is considerably more than last year. Ambrozy changed their rate structure without me knowing it.
I understand costs go up but a heads up would have been good - especially when it is drastically different (i had to do several more forms this year which brought the cost up, but I didn't expect the cost to more than double from last year). I walk out, have all my paper work and I'm good to go. Until I just get a call from Ambrozy. Turns out in the rush the accountant was in she keyed income in wrong and attributed it to the incorrect person. Wiping away a solid tax return I was hoping for.
I understand people make mistakes, but this is just a lack of attention to detail from the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out. This from a profession that requires meticulous attention to detail. I will not be going back here and I do not recommend that you go at all.

I am so outraged at their poor service that I have signed up for Yelp just to leave them this review. This is the worst place I have seen for tax purposes. I make a decent living and have fairly straighforward tax filing needs. Nothing complicated. It is very easy money for them. In fact last year it took someone two hours to file my entire taxes for me.
I have contacted Ambrozy end of February. Asked for an appointment. They got back to me and said that they could handle the process via mail and I could come back to review and file my taxes. I accepted, seemed efficient. Sent them all of my information within a week. Next? Never heard from them for a month. Despite my regular calls and emails, April never had the chance to get to it.
I called and two weeks due tax deadline, they are telling me that I can take my files and leave if I do not want to wait. And they make excuses like the snow storm for the delay. Snow storm for a tax office? Last time I checked, your job could have been done anywhere and anytime. If you are expecting a delay, you should inform your clients anyway.
This place is full of excuses, excuses, excuses. And a receptionist who does not understand that everything that comes out of her mouth can cost this business money (good money). This is improper business practice, verbal contract is a contract afterall and they should meet their deadlines. That is the amount of outrage they have left on me. Never again - I am not rich enough to buy poor quality tax services!

So just when I thought I couldn't be more annoyed about our experience with Ambrozy Accounting last year, our new accountant informs me of another mistake that caused me to overpay by $500 last year. He said there was no reason why anyone should have made this error (and he's going to refile the return and get the money refunded). It was just shoddy accounting on the part of Ambrozy. Oh - the new guy also charged a total of $300 for the preparation of 2 returns.

Since my previous experience, Ambrozy reached out to me and explained in details about the issues and how they have since changed their structure to rectify and prevent further problems. We filed our taxes with April this year, the process was smooth. April as always was very professional and pleasant to work with. Would recommend

They made several errors on my taxes. For the first issue they were very responsive but for the second and third they were not returning calls or emails. At first they claimed the problems weren't errors on their part but on the government's then they changed what they were saying and I owed more taxes plus penalties for lateness. After several requests that they cover the penalties because it was their mistake they finally agreed to do so.
They were a lot more expensive than other accounting firms and I was unhappy with the poor level of service. It seems that they used to get much better reviews (which is why I decided to use them) but have really gone downhill.

While visiting Ambrozy Taxes website to schedule an appointment for 2014, it dawned on me that while I've been visiting April for 5 years, I'd never written a review. Conversely, I've recommended personal and professional associates to her without hesitation. Reading some of these reviews, they do not represent the experience I've consistently had with April and her staff.
To begin, their attention to detail has been beyond reproach. Her vigilance in proactively referencing the most recent changes to the tax code as well as addressing my various sources of income and various real estate deductions has never left me dissatisfied. Prior to visiting Ambrozy tax for the first time I was dealing with an tax audit that I'd been unsuccessfully addressing with another local accountant and my limited experience. April addressed the issue during the office visit, helped me to develop a plan, spent several hours going over the specific details and I have had no issues since allowing her to manage my tax business.
I would recommend any one, business owner or not to April, particularly those who are kind and good natured. if you are ill tempered and possess poor manner.drop me a line. I have an accountant that I'd recommend to you.

After posting this review, members of the Ambozy team reached out to me to try and correct their past mistakes - both any actual mistakes made to my taxes, and the way my account was handled. Having worked with Matt, I know this is not the character of the firm and they are making every effort to resolve this poor communication. In working with them now, the responses are much quicker and clearer. I will likely give them a second chance going forward and hope this improvement carries through.

While looking at reviews trying to find a new accountant in preparation for next year, I noticed that ambrozy's star rating had gone down. I thought I'd share my experience as well. Here's what I didn't like about them: 1)They called to see if I would reschedule for the following week because April wanted to meet with me and wasn't going to be in the office.
When I showed up for my rescheduled appt I didn't meet with April anyways. 2) Explained to the accountant what my new small business was and handed him all of my paperwork which he quickly breezed through. Explained to him that I just started the business and wanted to get some consulting on what was the best way to keep records so that it's easy for them for next year (I had only been in business for 2 months in 2012).
He said what I was doing was fine and barely offered any advice or consulting even though when I made my appt I said I was interested in small business consulting as well. 3) they kept all of my paperwork while they were preparing my taxes. I thought I would be able to stay while they were filling everything out so that I could answer any questions but they said they would be finished by Monday. Wednesday the latest (it was Saturday).
First contact I get was Wednesday saying that they didn't realize I was an LLC and needed my business bank account info.they had all of that information already. 4) Kept getting emails with questions that I had already answered when I met with them originally. So they obviously weren't listening. And my name was spelled incorrectly every time even though whenever I replied I signed the email. 5) 3 weeks later I finally get my paperwork to go over and sign.only to see that they spelled my business name wrong.
So had them correct that which took another 3 days or so to get back. Good thing I went in February and didn't wait until last minute. 6) was told that I would need to pay estimated taxes in advance for 2013 based on what I owed for 2012. They made the amount the same as what I owed for 2012 even though I was I only in business for 2 months. Obviously I would have to pay more for 2013.
When I mentioned that to them the response was pretty much "oh yeah, probably". At that point I just wanted to be done. 7) They never contacted me to let me know if they e-filed my return even though they said they would. Contacted them to make sure as I didn't have any confidence in them. For $350 I feel like I could've gotten more personalized service from H&R block. I've had much better experiences with them.
I definitely cannot recommend ambrozy accounting, especially if you have complicated taxes. If I don't find a new accountant for next year I would rather go back to H&R block.

I would not recommend Ambrozy at all. We had a simple tax return with just one change of state and they were not able to file the state return correctly. They rushed through the returns so that they can just get us in and out of the office and onto the next client. When we noticed the mistake, getting in contact with them took three weeks! They did not reply to calls or emails.
It seemed like once we paid them it was out of sight out of mind. We even tried contacting April (the owner of the firm) and she did not care enough to help us resolve the issue. She also never replied to us. At the end of the day, I would give Ambrozy 0 stars if I could and would advise people reading this to stay away from this firm.

Last year, we had an amazing and painless experience with April Ambrozy. We met with her, she asked direct/pertinent questions, we answered, they called when they were done, we signed, we paid them, we got our refund. DONE. This year, I turned in our paperwork by email on March 29th. They responded with some questions, I answered them the second week of April.
Then in mid-May, they called and asked the same questions again. We called them in early June, they asked us the same questions AGAIN and said our taxes were done and we could sign/pay that week. Really disappointed in the lack of follow-through. If you are calling a client to ask follow-up questions, it is imperative to write down the information. We're happy with our return, certainly, but quite displeased with the shoddy communication and ineffective follow-through. We'll be looking for another firm next year.

I used TurboTax and it said I owed a ton of money, so naturally I panicked and decided to see a professional. I also had a few options about how to file, and I needed someone knowledgeable to help me figure it all out. I made an appointment for a free consultation just to find out my options, then my plan was to trudge back to TurboTax and make a second attempt, with the knowledge that the huge amount that I said I owe is not a mistake on my part.
I brought in all of my documents, April asked me a few questions, and within a few minutes, my taxes were done. She knew I hadn't planned on having her do them, so she only charged me $100 instead of whatever she would have normally charged (I'm not sure what that is, but I'm guessing $200 or more.) I didn't have any money or checks on me, so I went to the ATM (she doesn't take credit cards.) I was so relieved to have it all behind me that paid her happily. April is so down to earth and answered all of my questions, and she has a good sense of humor, too. I'm so glad I went to her.

My experience with April was completely painless. I usually file online all by myself, but 2010 was a wonky tax year with multiple jobs, moves, and getting married. My husband and I brought April every necessary document (and even some unnecessary ones) from throughout the year and she tackled our respective piles so swiftly and, seemingly, easily.
She even gave us some pointers that will help us in the future, and admitted that she never would have recommended we do our 2010 taxes ourselves. So we felt good about that. We felt even better when she told us how much we owed her (nevermind the government). She's incredibly reasonable. My only complaint is that she asked a couple questions without any context (I didn't know what form she was looking at to have prompted the question!). It made me confused as all get-out and I'm already really nervous about all things financial anyway. We laughed about it later, though.
