Jim Wilson completed my 2017 taxes, and the work I paid for was superb. He was extremely efficient and timely, which is what one is looking for from a tax preparer. He also helped me get ready for 2018 with the new law changes in Washington. I am happy to use him again and I am not sure why the first reviewer offered such a negative response to MacAlpine Carll & Co, but I believe it to be fake news.

After working with Macalpine Carll for five years, I finally had to terminate the relationship. After approximately 10 months of pleading, offering to do it myself, phone calls, and emails, a matter with the State Franchise Tax board wasn't dealt with. Usually the response was that it would be dealt with "next week" and that they were "too busy today" but that I should definitely call back. Getting the letter from my bank saying they were served with a court order was the last straw.
My individual taxes took approximately 7 months to complete last year- I turned everything in by the beginning of April (I am at the mercy of a 10k so I can't turn it in any earlier) and they were finally completed after months of begging and hounding, at the end of October. Of course I incurred penalties and fees for turning it in this late.
I am saddened and exasperated to be writing this but after 10 emails this year with titles like, "follow up on $4k in miscalculations and $1500 in fines", "please respond asap", "new letter from the tax board", "we have 11 days not 30"-- nearly all of which received no reply whatsoever since last November (it is now the end of August as I write this), (except one that notably stands out with the advice "do not pay this") I have finally said that enough is enough.
When I tried to speak with a supervisor or partner a few months ago to try and get this resolved internally, I was told that the partner, Macalpine Carll, was dead and so. long pause waiting for me to hang up. I don't like being a hater on yelp- but I have tried six ways to Sunday to get cooperation and help on my accounting matters--- including doing it myself, which I was discouraged from-- and to no avail.
At some point, enough is enough. Accountants, therapists, and lawyers are in such a special position and it is a huge pain to have to start a new relationship with someone else- but better to be prepared going in that find out when you're in a pickle, so I hope this helps someone else.
