Wendroff

I've worked with Wendroff for about 3 years now and they consistently disappoint. I pay them between $1k to $2k for my taxes and my principle complaints: 1. They switched accountants on me this past year and didn't notify me 2. There wasn't a formal handoff when they did switch accountants so some questions were never answered and new accountant wasn't given all the proper notes 3.

I've never felt like a priority. They make you feel like they're doing you a favor if you talk to them on the phone. 4. I gave them all my tax documents weeks in advanced and told them I don't want them to wait until the last minute to complete my taxes. Sure enough, literally the day or two before they are asking me follow up questions and we submit the last possible day. 5. *** This year they made a pretty big error and did my taxes wrong - basically mis-calculated my income. Not by a little, by like tens of thousands of dollars. Worst part is. I caught it. Now waiting for them to fix it.

I've been working with Wendroff a few years now and I feel like I've given them a fair shake. They have done my taxes, but the service has never been great and I have never felt like a priority. This year I sent my relevant tax forms weeks before deadline. I wasn't receiving any updates and I did all the follow up to check on status. Still, in the end they waited until literally 2 days before they were due before emailing me with questions.

I told them, I don't want to be that client that waits and submits right before the deadline, but here we are. It's also hard to get them on the phone, on the rare chance I do, it's like they are doing me a favor. I'm paying well over $1000 for them to do my taxes. One time I actually a missed call from someone there and when I called back I was chastised for calling them back as I supposed to call my designated contact.

This year, I've indicated to them an interest in purchasing more service hours (i.e they can make more money off me), but even with this, I still don't feel like a priority. The communication remains slow, I'm chasing my accountants for responses and answers. By the way, I'm a small business owner and they can see my business has been growing nicely - you'd think that would make a difference but it doesn't.

There was also a change in accountants at one point, and no-one bothered to tell me (I even had unanswered questions from that accountant). What's worse is there doesn't seem to be much of a handover. There were actions taken from the prior accountant, when I asked questions about why, the new person didn't know the answer. Their response was "I was off work during their last week".

Well gee, that doesn't really help. In short the communication, client relationship isn't very good. I have to do the follow up in chasing down responses. A lot of my questions I feel are reasonable but I get brief 1 sentence responses. I'm resisting the urge to give 1 star because that's too harsh. They did complete my taxes, they do (eventually) reply to emails if I remember to chase them down. But like I said in the beginning I've worked with them long enough to feel like I've given them a fair shake.

Wendroff & Associates is one of the very best CPA firms I have worked with. I use them for my personal tax returns as well as accounting services for my business. All of their associates are friendly, communicative experts and are thorough in their service delivery. I recommend them whole-heartedly!

Called for a quote and they would not provide one over the phone. Seemed like they were talking down to me the whole time. Maybe they don't need new clients. If that is the case, please turn off your systems instead of bating people to contact you only to be made to feel as if they are rubbish.

When I moved out of State in 2020, I made sure to retain my relationship with this fantastic firm! They are, without a doubt, the best CPA group with whom I've ever worked. Professional, courteous, informative, educational, and they make the whole process so easy. I love that everything can be handled remotely, and I have total trust in their decision-making. Yet the choice is there to drop in and say hello whenever I return to the DC area.

Original review from 2016: Wendroff & Associates has been doing our personal and business taxes since 2009, and I consider them to be truly outstanding. They are detail-oriented, fast and friendly. I have complete confidence that we're getting the best advice on tax savings. I've never been disappointed in the refunds that we've received under Wendroff's care (in fact I know that they've saved us a lot of money, because we've had not so good CPAs in the past!), but I also have found the firm to be reassuringly conservative in its interpretation of the tax code.

More than anything else, Jay and I have come to consider Brian a part of the family. He's been enormously generous with his time, and has given us boundless advice on organizing our accounting, setting up payroll, maximizing tax savings, and the like. He's also bent over backwards time and again when we've been under the gun. We're buying a house on short notice and had to ask him to write a letter to our mortgage broker at 9pm last night - on a Sunday evening - and he was on the phone with us at 9am this Monday morning getting it done.

Our broker had the letter in hand by noon. That sort of support is really incredible and so hard to find. I really cannot recommend this firm more highly! I trust them so much that I even recommended Wendroff and Associates to my boss when he was in need of an accountant - and he came into my office two weeks later to say that he owed me one, because Brian had refiled his returns and managed to save him $6,000 that the prior CPA had overlooked!;-) Update in July 2021: Just wanted to note that Wendroff is still doing our taxes and we're really happy with them!

This company gets 5 stars. Customer service was fantastic and they helped me sort out a tax mess in a very smooth and streamlined fashion. Will be going back to them next year and in the following years to come. Got a tax mess? These are your people. Can't recommend them enough.

I was referred to Wendroff & Associates, CPA by my attorney in Northern Virginia. One of the best tax experiences I've had, hands down. Not only were they extremely responsive, but offered a tremendous level of detail into my 2019 taxes and even reviewed 2018. They assisted in my return, and found that I still was eligible for a $7,500 Tesla vehicle credit - something that was missed by a different tax office in the past.

I came to Wendroff a little less than 10 years ago when I could no longer trust myself to do my personal and small business taxes. I can not recommend Wendroff enough. They've always been thorough, proactive and responsive. They're very organized and EVERY interaction is pleasant (shocking when dealing with taxes, I know!). If I have questions or concerns between tax filings, they've always been kind and generous to answer.

From office support staff all the way up to managing partners, I don't feel like I have a hired accounting firm to file for me once a year. I feel like I have partners in my personal and business financial success.

Tried to get a quote over the phone and they don't do that they need you fill out forms and email them. I just want a price nothing else: therefore they are not getting my business. Can't stand companies that can't just give a price. They also don't know how to pick up the phone, called 3 times so frustrating.

AVOID! I give this place one star for having the ability to schedule a meeting virtually. Spoke with a Darren who was 5 minutes late to the call and never apologized. Shared my needs with him, which he then continued to "mansplain" stuff to me assuming that I have no knowledge of taxes. Asked him how his firm is different and he said go look online and check out "our amazing reviews". anyway he stated that he was going to email with a proposal which I have yet to receive.

Good to know that this tax firm is reliable in following up with prospective customers. I don't see how this firm has supposedly amazing reviews when you have a director of comms that is unprofessional. Hope the owner sees this and resolves this issue.

Instead of pitching me "what they do, " they asked me lots of questions about my company's needs, and what we were looking for - they took us through their thorough on-boarding process for new corporate clients, and we were very happy with their bookkeeping review, suggestions, and year-end tax filing process.
